Second coming of the dot-boom?
Further to last week’s post about News Corp’s purchase of Intermix Media, the Australian Financial Review, Weekend Edition had a wily article about renewed Big Media interest in the web.
Titled “THE BIG BOYS’ SECOND BET ON THE INTERNET - THEY’RE BACK!”, it showed an 18-month timeline of major internet acquisitions. All three of Australia’s big online media groups showed up in one form or another: Fairfax with RSVP, PBL with Seek, and News Corp with the really buy of Intermix.
The key difference between purchases in 2000 and now? Today’s online businesses have positive cash flow … not just promises.
