Australian search trends 1999-2004

A really interesting document arrived via email today. Someone was kind enough to send me an excel sheet that contains the total number of searches on Australia’s largest directory for the top 2500 search terms for Australia from ’99-’04 !!

I was surprised to find ‘restaurants’ in #1 position for the each year, a clear leader in front of ‘medical practitioners’ followed by ‘real estate agents’. More surprising is ‘adult products and services’ coming in at #21, but then this is the internet.

The growth in number of searches for some terms is quite impressive. In ’99 there were 53,000 searches for ‘beauty salons, in ’04 there were 550,000!

Unfortunately the column that had revenue figures had been deleted. Bummer!
