Amazon blitzkriegs Christmas online sales
A few days ago I wrote a piece about the importance of the Christmas season when it comes to online sales. Now I’ve just read news about Amazon’s ‘05 “Holiday Season” sales results which confirm that blog post wholeheartedly.
For the ‘05 Christmas sales period, Amazon has reported that they shipped over 108 million items. Yes, you read right - 108 million individual items. On Dec 12th, Amazon also hit a single-day sales record - over 3.6 million items were ordered on that day. For the trivia buffs, the most expensive item purchased was a $94,000 pair of diamond earrings. They’ve come a long way since starting as a books-only online store.
